The Kentucky Exposition Center is a facility for multiple uses and is found in Louisville, Kentucky. The Kentucky State Fair Board operates the center, with one million square feel of exhibition space. It is is one of ten of the largest such facilities in the United States.
The complex has several key facilities. One is the Cardinal Stadium, a combination football and basketball stadium that can hold 47,000 people. At one time, it hosted the Louisville Redbird, a minor-league baseball team, and the football team of the University of Louisville. The other part is Freedom Hall, one of two arenas that are on the site that can seat 19,000. It was home to the men and women's basketball teams of the University of Louisville. Broadbent Arena has a capability of seating close to 7,000 people.
The Center has 19,000 spots in its parking lot that it uses in common with the Six Flags Kentucky Kingdon. The location has 1,000 horse stalls that are permanent as well as additional stalls that can be set up for horses and other livestock.
The Kentucky Exposition Center holds several events every year. These include the Kentucky State Fair, the National Farm Machinery Show and the North American International Livestock Exposition. It has also been home to NCAA Final Four Basketball tournaments, minor-league world baseball series and the Blue Grass Bowl, an effort to begin a bowl game for college football.
The Exposition Center is located next three major highways: I-65, I-71 and I- 64, as well as the Henry Watterson Expressway. The center is a one-day drive from at least half of the population of the country. The Louisville International Airport is close, and the city has 13,000 hotel rooms in the area.
The Exposition center underwent renovation in 2006 with the razing of the East wing that was built in 1956. The new North Wing is a more contemporary exposition with a higher ceiling and more open space. A skywalk, which connects to the parking, was added. This new exhibition area is most commonly used.
The exposition center can handle over 25,000 visitors in the arenas, along with 54 meeting rooms. The center has an auditorium with 600 seats and over 300 acres for displays outside. The site has full service catering and concessions for dining.
